Meadows Of Light

Meadows of light
That glow in the dark
Fields full of fireflies
That brighten our hearts

We remember our childhood
Standing in fields
Trying to catch them
With laughter and squeals

We’d put them in jars
By the bed in our room
Our own meadows of light
When clouds covered the moon

Now that we’re older
They still brighten the dark
Those meadows of light
Live on in our hearts

  1. This is lovely, Walt. How have I missed finding you before. By the way, I also have an amazing “heart attack and dissected aorta” survival to tell. I’ve written my story in posts and on pages. Do you have a post regarding your experience? If so shoot me a link.

  2. Oh I love this one Walt… Childhood memories can be some of the best! Funny story for you… I didn’t grow up in an area that had fireflies, and the only time I had ever seen them was in fairy-tales. So I had no idea that they were actually real. Then one day, I hopped on a plane to Virginia to see my dad (I was 18 at the time). Well anyway, as we were landing, it was just starting to get dark, and out in the fields around the airport were all these glinting lights hovering about! I came to discover that night, that fireflies were actually real. I’ve never forgotten that moment. It was like witnessing real magic for the first time. 😉

      1. I think it’s hilarious that nobody thought to ever tell me! It was the same with Northern Lights. And the first time I saw those, I had no idea what was going on… Lol… I guess my science teacher assumed those were topics that weren’t very important. 😉

      2. They really are… isn’t it amazing? The ones I saw were green and purple…. I saw mine up in the boundary waters of Minnesota at the age of 19. Haven’t seen them since, but it was the perfect place to see them…
