It was his chair
He was a giant of a man
At least to a 4 year old
I would sit in his lap
Listening to his stories
Tales of his youth
All his adventures
His days on the mountain
His life on the river
Time stood still on Squash Hollow Road
And I listened
Lost in his words
Stories and words
That remain with me still
This was his chair
And his spirit still remains

I’m guessing that he passed on a lot of his imagination to you, Walt. Lovely piece!

I was blessed with two awesome grandfathers, my mom’s father was Scottish and a lineman for a telephone company in Danbury, NH. My dad’s father was also a minister in New Milford, CT. I wish I could remember all their stories.

You are lucky! I never knew mine as one died before I was born and the other died when I was one year old. And sadly, neither one of my parents regaled me with any stories.

“…a giant of a man, at least to a 4 year old” I love that perspective…. as an adult I can still see him being a giant of a man, only in character not size.

Beautiful and atmospheric poem Walt.
I also do love that picture of the chair, such soft and dreamy colours.
