What If? – A Poem By Walt Page, The Tennessee Poet

What if there was no poetry
Just bland, nondescript words

No nursery rhymes
No lyrics for music

What if all the poetry in the world
Disappeared

Blank greeting cards
No more Hallmark Holidays

Thousands of poets
With nothing to write

Poetry is a mirror of the poet
A window to life

A quiet corner of beauty
A warm blanket of the familiar

Without poetry
There is no magic

No songs to sing
No nursery rhymes

I cannot imagine
A world without poetry

Nor could I live in one
