Gentle Waves

One of my earlier poems,
created on March 6, 2001.

Like waves gently
Kissing the shore
Her love washes over me

The sounds of the shore
Echo through my mind
As her love surrounds me

In the passion of an embrace
The tide of love rushes to meet me
And I am at peace

Our Highland Acres Ranch (A Double Sedoka)

Highland Acres Ranch
Home to our dogs and horses
Comfort for all of our souls

Life in the country
Where I write my poetry
I think I’ll stay here awhile

We have rescue dogs
Nine of them to be exact
Eight are females, one is male

He weighs just ten pounds
But he thinks he’s a Great Dane
Small body, large heart, no fear

The Old Broken Bridge

It’s just an old broken bridge
Crossing a snowy creek

What traffic has it seen?
How many souls have crossed its span?
Where did it lead?
How did it break?

A walk through the country
Brought me to here
To see the beauty of age
Just waiting to be shared

This snow covered bridge
Has a beauty so rare
That even though damaged
You won’t even care

Just follow my tracks
To the bridge to nowhere

My Writing Is More Than Words

As writers, we all use words as building blocks
Put together in sentences

My writing is more than just words
The words come from my heart
The writing comes from love
So much more than just words

When I hear the sounds of the night
The wind through the trees
The laughter of my grandsons
I start putting them to words

Words that describe how they make me feel
About love and life
Good times and bad
I write what I feel

Anyone can put words on paper
But can anyone create images with those words?
Memories in your own mind?

I write from almost 74 years of life
Ups and downs
Around and around
My words are my life

When you sit down to write
Let your mind fly free
Let the memories caress you
Like mine have with me

So open your mind
Let your fantasies unwind
They are more than mere words
If you just take the time

Whether your thoughts or mine
We’re all much the same
So write down your words
And your memory will remain

Soulana, Sister Land To Everdream

It’s a magical place that I visit
As I sit alone in the dark
A place of mystery and night songs
Where I go to quiet my heart

It’s doesn’t matter if I write
For that’s not why I’ve come
Soulana is my quiet place
To visit when day is done

But the music of Soulana fills my soul
And poems start to form
My heart tells me what to write
As words escape my pen

The words start flowing faster now
Words of love and words of life
Inspiration comes in wave after wave
Tsunamis of words that I need to write

Find your Soulana and go there tonight
The words will come and you’ll start to write
Feel the magic of Soulana flow through your pen
It will make you believe in your writing again

Take The Time To Enjoy A Sunset

There is no greater love than
that of two people at sunset,
caressed by the soft country breezes
while they are calmed by the sound
of nickering horses at feeding time

There is no greater love than
that shared by those who love the country
and the beauty and power of nature

Take the time to listen to the songs
of the animals

Take the time to let the
beauty of the countryside at sunset
caress your soul

Take the time
for there is no greater love

A Musical Christmas Story

I was a Preacher’s kid who played drums, so of course on Christmas Eve I became the little drummer boy. It was on a silent night that grandma got run over by a reindeer.

Frosty the snowman accused Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, but Santa baby said he was coming to town and would investigate. Carol of the bells asked Mary if she knew, but Mary had been sleeping, dreaming of a white Christmas.

Meanwhile, the elves were all rockin’ around the Christmas tree while the band played jingle bell rock. The opening act, We Three Kings, asked, “Do you hear what I hear?” Mary was still groggy from her nap and kept asking “What child is this?” She told Joseph “All I want for Christmas is you.” Joseph shrugged and said, “It’s the most
wonderful time of the year, so let’s deck the halls!”

Poor old mean Mr. Grinch was having a blue Christmas, but he still enjoyed the dance of the sugar plum fairy. Jolly old Saint Nicholas returned and said to Mrs. Claus, “Baby it’s cold outside, so let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

We looked up and saw that up above the northern lights, the herald angels were singing O Holy Night. We went caroling along Candy Cane Lane and sang Christmas Carols, including Mele Kalikimaka, The Chipmunk Song and Let It Be Christmas.

As we roasted chestnuts on the open fire, we sang I Saw Three Ships, Silver Bells and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. As the clock tower bell rang 12 times, it came to us on that midnight clear that there was no place like home for the holidays.

As we said our goodbyes, we looked up and heard Santa exclaim as he drove out of sight, “Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!”

In The Silence

In the silence I feel you
Gliding through my mind
Caressing my soul
With your silent words

In the silence I love you
Letting you into my heart
Feeling your love embrace me
As I fall deeper and deeper

I have found your heart
Seen your soul
Found you again
In the silence

The Wisdom In The Silence

There is wisdom in the silence
And peace in the breeze
The quietness of the evening surrounds me
And I listen for the night songs to begin

If you stay quiet, you can hear them
Playing softly in your head
They are carried on the evening breeze
To soothe your weary soul

As I walk along the shore, my troubles melt away
The moon is bright, the air is sweet
The jasmine blooms at night here
The air is filled with scented dreams

The evening becomes a dream world
My heart is filled with love
My mind is so much clearer now
Listening to the wisdom in the silence
