I come from preachers
and choir directors

I come from musicians
and singers
small towns, mountains
and rivers

I come from
New England relatives
in New Hampshire,
Connecticut
and Massachusetts

I come from churches
and hymnals

I come from parents
who showed me how to live
and then let me
