Worth The Wait

As I stand on a mountain top
I realize there are so many poems
in my soul yet to be written,
so many songs to be sung

I doubt that I will ever be able
to write them or sing them
before the veil of darkness
surrounds me

they will have to wait
for another one of my lives
to give them birth

it will take many lives
to write them all
and to sing them all

but they will be
worth the wait

  1. The very highest of compliments
I can humbly summon, Walt, is to
say your poem brought to mind
the lyrics of Bob Dylan . . .

” … I’ll tell it and think it
and speak it and breathe it
and reflect it from the mountain
so all souls can see it.
Then I’ll stand on the ocean
    until I start sinkin’
but I’ll know my song well
    before I start singin’
    and it’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall.”
