“…don’t be like so many thousands of people
who call themselves writers. Don’t be dull and boring
and pretentious. Don’t be consumed with self-love.
The libraries of the world have yawned
themselves to sleep over your kind. Don’t
add to that. Don’t do it.”
So You Want To Be A Writer ~ Charles Bukowski
The thunder roars
Lightning flashes
Poetry today
Is turning into ashes
Whatever happened
To poems from the heart?
Poets today are using words
That nobody ever uses
You can call me old fashioned
Or call me an old fart
But I’ll keep on writing
My poetry from my heart

You write what you feel
I’m sure it will be good
using everyday words
that can be understood

I came across this quote somewhere that I love: “I’ve seen writers who’ve used so much ‘wordsmithery’ that I had no idea what the hell they were even trying to say. The goal of poetry is to create emotions, not prove that the poet owns a thesaurus. Too much verbal glitter creates what’s called ‘purple prose'” I appreciate your friendship Leigha 🙂❤️

I like that term, verbal glitter! That is a great quote. …not half as much as I appreciate yours! ❤ 🙂

Self expression in any form is good.

In all cases? I don’t necessarily disagree, but where do we draw a line? Are we to say whatever we like in the name of poetry? Even if it is obscene? Hurtful? Who defines “self expression”?

As long it’s not offensive. But using ordinary language is okay.

I am an ordinary man who uses ordinary words in my ordinary poetry. It’s the only way I know. 😇

So do I, but I am no poet. Just using poetry to express my thoughts better.

There are many facets of being a poet.,using poetry to express your thoughts better is certainly one of them. You may not think you are, but you are indeed a poet Sadje. 😎

Thanks Walt. I feel sometimes the poetry is a better medium to express one’s thoughts. You’re very kind.
