Poetry Today ~ A Poem By Walt Page, The Tennessee Poet

…don’t be like so many thousands of people
who call themselves writers. Don’t be dull and boring
and pretentious. Don’t be con
sumed with self-love.
The libraries of the world have yawned
themselves to sleep over your kind. Don’t
add to that. Don’t do it.”
So You Want To Be A Writer ~ Charles Bukowski

The thunder roars
Lightning flashes
Poetry today
Is turning into ashes

Whatever happened
To poems from the heart?
Poets today are using words
That nobody ever uses

You can call me old fashioned
Or call me an old fart
But I’ll keep on writing
My poetry from my heart

    1. I came across this quote somewhere that I love: “I’ve seen writers who’ve used so much ‘wordsmithery’ that I had no idea what the hell they were even trying to say. The goal of poetry is to create emotions, not prove that the poet owns a thesaurus. Too much verbal glitter creates what’s called ‘purple prose'” I appreciate your friendship Leigha 🙂❤️
