The Art Of Dying ~ A Poem By Walt Page, The Tennessee Poet

Dying is an art. Like everything else,
I do it exceptionally well. I do it so it
feels like Hell. I do it so it feels real.
I guess you could say I have a call”
~Sylvia Plath~

When I first saw the movie “Sylvia”,
this quote was being said out loud as
she lay in a coffin.

The seeds of a poem were planted.

Dying is an art
It should be treated as such
There is dramatic dying
Fearful dying
Happy dying
Painful dying
Lingering dying
There are so many ways to die
I will die with dignity
I will die with gratitude for life
I will die grateful for relief from pain
I will die knowing I will live on
Through the words in my poetry
Death is not something you get over
But it’s something you get through

  1. A brave and honest poem, Walt….. Below some of my favourite lines…
“Oh I’ll never get to the moon
But I’ve seen the universe in a blade of grass
Oh I’ve built my questions a raft
And I send them floating there on a lake of glass
And though this weight is like a stone
It is hard to drop the things I’ve come to know” – – Sean Rowe.
