A Chronic Pain Warrior ~ A Poem By Walt Page, The Tennessee Poet

Pain Makes you stronger. WRONG
Pain builds character. WRONG
It only hurts. No more, no less.
Pain hurts.
Pain is exhausting. Draining.
No matter how much sleep you get
You will still be tired.
No matter how tired you are
You still won’t be able to sleep.
Pain cause chronic fatigue.
It is there when you wake up.
It stays with you all day.
It’s a lack of energy,
A feeling of mental, emotional
And physical exhaustion.
I may not tell you that I hurt all the time.
But I do.
In my world of chronic pain,
May the meds be ever in my favor.
I wake up in pain.
I stay up in pain.
I do what needs to be done in pain.
I go to bed in pain.
Chronic pain is all about the waiting.
Waiting for it to stop,
For your meds to work.
Most days I feel like shit
And I want to quit,
But I am not a quitter.
I fight through the pain.
I am a Chronic Pain Warrior!

  1. And you just can’t REST it away! I get it, Walt. Sadly, I get it. I have been thinking about writing about my experiences with chronic pain but haven’t gotten around to it…I am glad that you did. Fight on my warrior writer friend…we are on the same battlefield.
