Down The Road A Piece – A Poem By Walt Page, The Tennessee Poet

When you live in the country
Distance is not exact
How far to town?
Just down the road a piece
For anyone from a city
This can be very frustrating when you deal in time
How long to get to town?
Not long, it’s just down the road a piece
Down the road a piece
You’ll find whatever you need
Hungry?
Thirsty?
It’s just down the road a piece
Just hop on into my 55 Ford
And I’ll take you there
Old Joe’s already there
Playing some boogie woogie piano
Stick around awhile
We’re gonna rock and boogie all night
You’re gonna love it here in Tennessee
Where everything is just
Down the road a piece
So bring your wife and kids
Where rock and roll heaven
Exists every night
Just down the road a piece

  1. I like the directions that are neighborhood specific – “turn where Dean ran out of gas last year” or “go straight until you reach the tree Bobby hit this winter” but down the road a piece is good too! 🙂
