Visiting With The Spirits – A Poem By Walt Page, The Tennessee Poet

It was a quiet New Year’s Eve
As I walked through the cemetery
I often come here at night
It helps clear my head
Of all the cobwebs from the day
I enjoy visiting with the spirits
Of those who now live here
Perhaps “live” is not the right word
“Exist” would be more accurate
Since spirits do exist
My visits often last until dawn
When the spirits slowly fade away
We would talk of days gone by
Previous lives they had lived
Things they had seen and done
I would read my poetry to them
And they listened so quietly
They encourage and support me
Which puts my mind at ease
I’d write my notes of each visit
And then put them away
To use them in my poetry
To chase my demons away
