The Longing – A Poem By Walt Page, The Tennessee Poet

I long for earlier times
When I was young and feeling fine
When lyrics to songs all made sense
And people weren’t so damn intense

I long for the days
When my memories were made
Those memories survive
In the corners of my mind

I long for the days of iron
Days of wine
Doing nothing
But killing time

Playing drums with the Zodiac Zoo
The music was great and we were too
The longing is strong, it’s where I belong
And once I feel better, I’ll be gone

And I’ll be young again

  1. I wish I could go back to the days when I was feeling fine… I am definitely not the same person I used to be and I miss her. I used to be a cross-country backpacker, a young woman with a lot of energy. Ahhh…to go back to those days without all the pain and issues of today would be great! Love your poem! ❤

  2. The older you get, the stronger the yearning gets. Since I can’t go backwards in time, I peek in that door now and then, but try and focus on my now. Isn’t that funny?
