On a midnight morning
I walked away
Nowhere to go
Nothing to say
I don’t feel like writing
The words went away
So I walked through the woods
Hoping it would help find a way
There is a hopefulness among the trees
The sounds of nature, the bird songs
Seeing small animals scurrying away
And the beauty of an occasional deer
It brings peace to my soul
Inspires me and calms my troubled mind
At the end of a day in the woods
I sleep soundly
And on a midnight morning
I wake refreshed, invigorated
The words have returned
And I write

I too can find a renewal in nature. Great piece.

Nature is always wonderful against writer’s block! Takes away the stress, grounds us and it can be so inspiring in the end. Lovely, Walt!

Yes, Walt, we do. I have several ways to get inspiration. 🙂

Isn’t it amazing how the smallest thing can inspire us unexpectedly? A baby’s laugh, a leaf drifting from a tree, the sweet smell after a spring rain, the nicker of a horse in the morning, the lyrics of a song… So many things that I now notice as I’ve aged. ☺

Yes, exactly. We noticed that our friends talk more of family, life, and daily things instead of work, now that they’re retired. 🙂

Joan Didion, one of my favorite writers, puts her manuscript in the freezer and walks away if she’s stuck. I, like you find that nature is very soothing to my soul and helps me whenI can’t seem to find the perfect word…Wonderful my friend. ❤

Thank you Linda, and once again I apologize for being so far behind in reading your wonderful poetry. How dare life, health and personal crap interfere with my reading!?! I’m not sure putting my unfinished poems in the freezer would work for me 😊💛
