On A Midnight Morning – A Poem by Walt Page, The Tennessee Poet

On a midnight morning
I walked away
Nowhere to go
Nothing to say
I don’t feel like writing
The words went away
So I walked through the woods
Hoping it would help find a way
There is a hopefulness among the trees
The sounds of nature, the bird songs
Seeing small animals scurrying away
And the beauty of an occasional deer
It brings peace to my soul
Inspires me and calms my troubled mind
At the end of a day in the woods
I sleep soundly
And on a midnight morning
I wake refreshed, invigorated
The words have returned
And I write

  1. Joan Didion, one of my favorite writers, puts her manuscript in the freezer and walks away if she’s stuck. I, like you find that nature is very soothing to my soul and helps me whenI can’t seem to find the perfect word…Wonderful my friend. ❀

      1. Isn’t it amazing how the smallest thing can inspire us unexpectedly? A baby’s laugh, a leaf drifting from a tree, the sweet smell after a spring rain, the nicker of a horse in the morning, the lyrics of a song… So many things that I now notice as I’ve aged. ☺
