Hell-O-Ween – A Poem By Walt Page, The Tennessee Poet

Jackknives and jack-o-lanterns
Candles in the windows
Scarecrows on the porches
Scary dreams and haunted screams
Killer cars we named Christine
We could have called them
Geraldine or maybe even Josephine
They were written about in a magazine
A popular one called Seventeen
I read it while eating a tangerine
While I was the Captain of a submarine
My ship was lean, mean and only sixteen
I drank my caffeine from the ship’s canteen
So bad it reminded me of Vaseline
A taste so bad it was obscene
But we didn’t care, we were quite serene
As we held on tight to our green tambourines
For it was getting close to Hell-O-Ween
