My demons came back
The night before last
The darkness returned
Like it had in the past
I knew what was coming
The dark night of the soul
They had tried once before
But that time they failed
They circled around
Inside my head
I could not let them win
Or my soul would be dead
The battle raged on
All through the night
They did everything wrong
I did everything right
I again held my ground
And they lost their control
I again had survived
The Dark Night Of The Soul

Glad you were able to write out some of your demons. It can be very therapeutic. Great writing as usual!

You did well Walt. The night is where our demons lurk because they think we are tired and weak. It’s a battle I fight every night.

You can’t change the past. You are only human, and humans make mistakes. I’m not prying, but your darkness makes for a great poem. I hope one day you can leave it all behind.

Thank you Claudia. Using it in my poetry helps lighten the guilt i feel. It’s complicated, more so than it appears on the surface. Long story that someday i will have the courage to write about. Thank you for your kind words and support.

Is this a true story, Walt?

Unfortunately Tom, yes it is. It relates to a pretty devastating mistake I made in 2014. And no, it didn’t have anything to do with an affair, lol. One day when my courage is at a high level, I’ll share it. In the mean time, read my post from last October titled Guilty As Charged.

I know it can seem strange to speak of darkness as beautiful, but when you write about it as you have, when you write the demons away, it is beautiful. Thank you for sharing this, Walt!

It is never easy to face one’s demons…harder still to share them.

Amal, do that for me, too! I’m a firm believer in having my typos pointed out so I can fix them, but when I point out others’ they all look at me kind o’ strange. 😂
