Update On My Medical Expenses

I’m reposting this today, since my first medical bills have started to arrive. It’s been 3 weeks since my surgery and bills so far amount to over $700. We’ve only raised $150 and we are grateful for that. My wife Susan has been on family medical leave without pay, so we have no income for the next four weeks. We could really use your help, even if it’s only a few dollars. Please help a fellow blogger?

I am having total knee replacement of my right knee on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. The surgeon has told me that it will require a hospital stay of 2-3 days. Medicare will cover only 80% of the costs and my Blue Cross supplemental Advantage Plan requires copays of $300 per day for the hospital stay and $325 for the surgery. Each follow up with the orthopedic surgeon is a $40 copay.  The recovery period for this surgery at my age is 6-8 weeks.

The surgeon has also informed me that I will need 6 weeks of physical therapy, 2-3 times per week. My copay for each physical therapy visit will be $40, which amounts to $$80-$120 per week for 6 weeks which will amount to $480-$720 total. My wife Susan is taking family medical leave for 5 weeks and 3 weeks of that will be unpaid leave, which amounts to almost $1000 in lost wages. I am still paying for my open heart surgery last year, with a balance of $1060.

Susan and I really need help to cover all of these expenses and any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much!

    1. Unfortunately I’ve been a slacker and have neglected the at home exercises. It has made my knee get stiffer and still painful, but it’s my own fault. I started them again, so I hope it helps. Dr. Says I’m doing well considering my age, 5 months to age 74 😃. It hasn’t kept me from being active and taking care of our animals and ranch. I only had 4 physical therapy sessions due to financial reasons. Sorry you asked, lol? Are you having knee replacement surgery? If so, do all the therapy you can and always do the home exercises. That no you for asking. 😃💛

  1. It is ridiculous how much we have to pay just for simple healthcare 😦 I hope you have a speedy recovery and raise enough money to pay for it without going into debt. We often find ourselves in the same boat unfortunately.
